The Cromer Crab becomes a high quality affordable souvenir character in this fun and quirky range of contemporary gifts and clothing designed around the theme of Norfolk.
Where to find it
Gone Crabbing is an innovative brand of quality products that fly the flag for Norfolk. They’re available in stockists throughout the UK and in two retail shops, one of which is in Norfolk, naturally. Just follow the coastal road from Hunstanton to Wells-next-the-Sea and you’ll drive through Burnham Deepdale where you’ll see a petrol station, small supermarket and selection of retail outlets. The store has an instant contemporary feel with its white walls and floor to ceiling displays. If you’re looking for a gift to remind you of your holiday in Norfolk, this shop is sure to impress, particularly the children although they cater for all.
What to expect
A strong brand devised with a view to serving the tourist industry, the brains behind the creation is Susie Mason, a local and lover of the county who spent many happy hours crabbing on the quaysides of Norfolk in her childhood and with her own children. She felt a mascot was needed; something to put Norfolk on the map. The Cromer Crab instantly came to mind and her vision evolved from there. Colin the Crab was designed and quality products sourced, and within a couple of years Susie had formed a fun and imaginative range of gifts and casual clothes that perfectly reflect the essence of Norfolk and coastal life. Drawing on traditions, landscapes, people and heritage, a bright and uplifting distinctive brand was born and there’s been no turning back for the family run independent business.
What can you buy there?
The signature crab mascot continues to feature of all products from hoodies and t shirts, to tea towels and aprons, soaps, mugs and postcards. There really is an eclectic mix of gifts for all. The clothing is their main runner with t shirts starting from age 6-9months and hoodies from 3-4 years. Kids will fall in love with such characters as Colin, Steve the Seagull and many more – new personalities are designed every year with stock constantly changing. I saw a child just the other day in a hoodie sporting ‘Watch out, nippers about’ with the cute crab logo. He looked adorable and was clearly wearing his top with pride. Children will love this shop. Adult sizes are available too though and go up to XL. Featuring fun slogans such as ‘Live life, don’t be crabby’ and ‘Norfolk Crabbing Crew’, they provide quirky fashion items for people who appreciate a fun and light hearted style.
Everything about this shop is pure creativity as its best. Embracing Norfolk and all it stands for; a simple yet addictive eye catching brand that is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
Gone Crabbing is open seven days a week, 10am to 5pm in summer, 10am to 4pm in winter. T shirts start at £9.99 and hoodies at £26.99 with periodic sales for end of season lines.
