Where to find it
Norfolk and North Norfolk in particular is renowned for its beautiful landscapes, sweeping coastline and abundance of wildlife. With locations such as Titchwell’s Nature Reserve and Scolt Head Island (click here for a review) just minutes away, the One Stop Nature Shop couldn’t have a more prominent position. Situated at Burnham Deepdale, on the coastal road from Wells-next-the-Sea to Titchwell, this store has everything you’ll ever need for wildlife observation. Amateur or professional, travelling afar or in your back garden, every need is catered for and all under one roof. What an ingenious idea.

What to expect
The owners, Richard Campey and Bob Town, have an impressive career history between them ranging from optical retailers, microscope specialists and presenters of the ‘Wild about the West’ wildlife programme. In short they know their stuff; they understand nature and are experts in how best to observe it. Their aim, in December 2011, when they opened up shop, was to provide a destination outlet for people to find all things involved in wildlife observation, and they really did mean ALL people. Often these ‘equipment’ shops can seem daunting if you’re a novice and unsure of exactly what you want but this shop embraces every customer on their own level and simply delights in a shared love of nature. You’ll receive expert advice in a friendly atmosphere and can rest assured you’ll leave with the items that are just right for you, in terms of both need and budget.

What can you buy here?
If it’s to do with observing nature, then you’ll find it here. There’s over 70 models of binocular for starters ranging from £39 to £1000; big names such as Kite, Hawke and Zeiss. Catering for all professional levels they have the largest range of microscopes in Europe and all the latest observation products such as triggered trail cameras, night vision monoculars and nest box cameras. You’ll find a full range of cases, tripods and travel accessories as well as weather stations for monitoring the environment.

There’s also an excellent selection of field equipment and children’s interest. Starting from £24 you can buy butterfly, bee watcher and insect identification kits. For £69 the bird watching pack offers Hawke binoculars, RSPB identification book, Top 50 garden birds chart, bird song CD and 5 in 1 cleaning kit. For curious kids there are harmless spider and insect catcher kits and botanical laboratories with instructions on 14 different experiments to keep them amused.
Books include nature based novels as well as factual identification guides, and there’s a wide selection of bird feeders and bird food too, all locally sourced.
It’s refreshing to see a shop based entirely on the appreciation of nature. Observing wildlife, in all its varying forms, is a fascinating and deeply engrossing hobby that can be so rewarding with the right equipment and know how. Norfolk is privileged to have such as outlet and I’m sure its presence will bring even more visitors to the area to explore our beautiful county.
