Where being ethical doesn't cost the earth!

A company who has an ethos that is a breath of fresh air. As their slogan says, “we care about everyone’s tomorrows” and after talking to this husband and wife duo, Stephen and Jill Roberson, I am in no doubt they genuinely do.

Conscience free shopping
The philosophy here is simple and after eight years in business, it’s clearly a winning formula: they only sell products that are made from materials that are reclaimed, recycled or otherwise ethically sourced and produced in a sustainable and non-exploitative manner. With these principles, they have tracked down a vast array of suppliers offering a great selection of quality merchandise. Being passionate about what they do, they have even been out to one of these third world countries to experience life at the opposite end of the purchasing chain – those that make the goods. Here they learnt to help others in a way that respects their own life choices and the majority of their suppliers are part of the British Association of Fair Trade Shops that offers appropriate support to their overseas working communities. The Living Rooms also support UK sustainable businesses and almost all of their products are carbon neutral.

What can you buy here?
The selection of products on offer are varied and extensive from large home furniture to interior accessories and gifts for all ages.
The furniture is made from mango wood and crafted to a high quality, as too is the exquisite garden benches all unique and eye catching with their natural contours. You’ll find sculptures hand carved from lava stone and wonderful scrap metal statues from South Africa, as well as rugs and cushions. I was particularly impressed by the selection of fabric lighting from Indonesia. What I love the most about this online store is nothing here can be found on the high street; everything is just that little bit different and unusual.

There are plenty of present buying ideas too with a good variety of scarves, bags and jewellery for sale from the Philippines and a selection of hand crafted wrap and cards. This shop breaks the myth too that fair trade stuff is expensive; it clearly doesn’t have to be as I found the pricing here very reasonable, with my favourite item being an ingenious recycled newspaper gift bag at 49p!

The Living Rooms now offer FREE DELIVERY acorss the whole of the UK.
