Where to find it
The Norfolk Deli can be found in the main seaside town of Hunstanton – west Norfolk - with its beautiful coastline and stunning sunsets. Opened in 2014, this high class deli is a welcome addition to the area bringing the opportunity to buy fresh quality local produce as well as more unusual food supplies.
What to expect
Walking up the hill from the main high street, the deli will call out to you with its classy frontage, welcoming bistro tables and healthy wholesome fruit and veg stands. Once inside, you’ll find a floor to ceiling display of varied food and drink products with one thing in common – they all scream quality, superiority and excellence in their individual fields.
Husband and wife duo, Mark and Rosie, bring to the counter a versatile career background of useful skills that range from IT sales and marketing to managing a branch of Dobbies that turned around a profit increase of 220%. This coupled with their worldwide travels, love of fine food and common business sense has resulted in a firmly established shop and strong customer base within only a few months of opening the doors.
What can you buy here?
Originally a wine cellar and off license, they still retain a good selection of high end wines and whiskies but are also expanding into Norfolk wine such as the hugely successful Winbirri vineyards of Surlingham where grapes are handpicked to avoid any damage and pressed over six hours in a gentle process for superior taste. A huge selection of local ales can be found with the obvious Woodfordes but also Norfolk Square Brewery, Maverick Craft, and Elmtree Beers.
The cheese counter is extensive – some 60 varieties – with a cheese club for members to sample monthly delights. The only wet fish retailer in Hunstanton, you’ll find a large regular selection – from cod and haddock to sea bass, skate and smoked salmon – as well as the option of pre-ordering individual catches. The deli counter offers everything you’d expect from a traditional deli - hams, salamis, cold and cured meats, plus antipasti produce and around a dozen olive choices. The fruit and veg comes from local allotments, their honey from Heacham (a Sandringham Flower Show winner no less) and their coffee is produced from a small artisan roaster (Coffee Magic) in Attleborough. They’re also branching out into international foods as well as gluten free products to appeal to all.
Take aways & Hampers
The Norfolk Deli sandwich selection has reached legendary status, not just for the breadth of filling choice but for how packed and delicious they are. They’re also picnic connoisseurs with an appealing collection of hamper themes delivered in recycled sail bags (each bag has a code on it that when typed into a website gives information on the original boat it was used on). Whether you’re going out for the day or arriving at your holiday home for the week, there’s a hamper to suit your every need removing the stress of food preparation and leaving nothing to do but enjoy your leisure time and happy munching!
Undoubtedly everything you buy here will be of finest quality but Mark and Rosie don’t just sell quality food; they’re passionate about it, delighting in the backgrounds of how every product arrives on the shelves, engaging with customers to give as much detail on what they’re buying as possible. They’re constantly researching and sourcing new produce offering goods from winning suppliers both locally and more specialised from unique London companies. If you appreciate fine food and like to know your produce has been chosen with care, The Norfolk Deli will meet all your expectations and more.
The deli is open daily, Monday to Saturday 8.30am to 5pm, and Sundays and bank holidays 10am to 4pm. Hampers can be collected from the shop or delivered free of charge to surrounding areas.
