USER REVIEW: Maureen Walpole, Lincs
I have just been to Picturecraft in Holt to see the Keiron Williamson exhibition. This is the talented young artist, now nearly ten, whose amazing skill was discovered aged five years when he asked for a sketch pad on holiday to draw the boats that he saw.
I was amazed at the different styles and mediums this young artist uses, including watercolour, oils and pastels. A lot of his work is landscapes but he has attempted a few portraits, including a self portrait. Whilst his earlier work of five years shows talent, I felt it also had the simplistic quality one would expect from a child of that age but when I looked at the paintings he did when he was seven years old, I was astounded by the maturity I found there. A particular one of a bluebell wood is of a standard I would love to emulate.
I felt his latest work was of a different style, perhaps showing experimentation, a lot of them having a looser, almost impressionistic feel to them. To be honest I personally prefer his earlier works from ages seven and eight but whatever one’s preference this is an exhibition not to be missed, and I had the luck to be there when Keiron himself was present and to have my picture taken with him and his book which is well worth purchasing.
