A yearly event from North Norfolk railway Poppy Line
where the whole village gets in character, dresses up
and steps back in time for an authentic weekend of 40s
era entertainment.
"1940s weekend in Sheringham was fantastic. The atmosphere
was amazing and the event was very popular. Buses from the era
ran people from the park and ride to Holt station. Stalls were at
both stations, Holt and Sheringham, alongside a hog roast and live
music with dancing "swing" style. The places were full of people
dressed from the era, land girls, civilians and uniformed. Authentic
trucks and cars were also present. A highlight was the victory speeches delivered from a shop roof in Sheringham by Winston Churchill, the mayor and a member of the armed forces. Steam trains were available to ride in and stopped at the stations which looked as though time had stood still. Children carried gas masks and looked as though they were about to be evacuated to safety. A very well organised authentic themed event."
