An insider's guide to the county's best kept secrets
WELLS-NEXT-THE-SEA ANNUAL CARNIVAL
First Weekend in August every year

Year after year, the Wells-Next-the-Sea carnival crew do a fantastic job with the planning and execution of the infamous Carnival Day - this year was no different. Regardless of intervals of showers, Carnival Day was as entertaining as ever. Unfortunately the showers seemed to put a few people off, but as if it were scheduled, the sun came out just as the parade came to view at the top of Glebe Road. In true Carnival tradition, the quay was packed with carnival goers of all ages cheering the parade on. The Buttlands was busy all day and evening and I heard great things about the weeks' activities leading up to Carnival Day.
If you are a lover of all things Norfolk, then Wells Carnival is a must. It is a sacred celebration of summer fun, tradition and community spirit. Carnival week is the first week in August every year without fail, B&B's go quickly so get booking. Or if you prefer, the Pinewoods offer camp sites and caravans for hire.
The festival spreads over a fortnight and includes many activities and events including a Teddy Bear's Picnic, Beach Party and Sandcastle Competition. Car Parking for the actual Carnival Day can be difficult. Try Freeman Street NR23 1BQ, Quay Side NR23 1AT or the Footbal Club NR23 1DR who give their proceeds to the Carnival organisation team. Alternatively hop on the Coast Hopper bus: www.norfolkgreen.co.uk 01553776980.
